A Day in the Life of a Santa Photo
Fundraising Volunteer
by Jerry Tucker
The day was a mixture of 45 animals, mostly dogs, 4 cats and some shy children who wanted
to see Santa up close.

The kids were cute, the cats nervous, and the dogs came in all sizes. There was a 170-pound Mastiff who was a gentle giant and caused no problems for Santa, the elves, or photographer. One Greyhound – Fargo-- came to show everyone what grace and style was all about. There were several cute, adorable, friendly companions that everyone loved to pet, coo, and talk to their proud owners.

Then suddenly on the scene comes Minipinihuahua (cross between a miniature pincher and Chihuahua).....a 4-pound, 3 month-old-bundle of happy energy. Because he was so cute and happy, Santa Alan expected a quick photo and then move on to the waiting crowd.  But the Minipinihuahua decided Santa was the most delicious thing he had seen in his life. After all, it was Santa...and you only get one chance to impress Santa. So have at it! And have at he did!

The first "attack" of kisses was in Santa's right ear, then the kisses moved to the nose...but even more fun was Santa's nostril.  How many licks can you get in Santa's nostril in 30 seconds? How about 500? Once the nostril was completely "cleaned" he made a move on Santa's beard.

Suddenly, to the horror of many children in the gathering crowd, Santa's beard was pulled down and away.  But, ahaaaa! Santa Alan had grown a mustache and the beginning of a white tinged beard. A sigh went through the crowd of children when they saw that Santa did indeed have a real beard...it was just in the growing season getting ready for Christmas. A disaster avoided!

Santa quickly gained control of his beard, but Minipinihuahua went for the glasses!  As they sat lopsided on Santa's face he made a switch of Minipinihuahua to his left hand and arm.  But Minipinihuahua saw new opportunity...another new nostril and ear to attack!

Meanwhile, the crowd gathered, the cashiers stopped ringing up the Christmas sales to watch and the elves were frantically squeaking toys and calling out Minipinihuahua’s name. Suddenly someone from the audience yelled, "Cookie"! Minipinihuahua looked at the crowd and the camera...cocked his head in a sly way and had his photo taken.....now that was interesting...a flash of light! Minipinihuahua decided to look at the camera for two more seconds and a second photo was taken.

The crowd burst into applause! Minipinihuahua was quickly rescued from Santa by a very happy, proud laughing owner. The crowed looked to Santa, who said, “Thank you Minipinihuahua for cleaning my nose and ears, and thank God you’re not a Mastiff!”
